Inspiration is not lacking in Terre Haute.  Art lovers will especially appreciate the Swope Art Museum located in the heart of downtown, and welcomes visitors year-round to rotating national showcases as well as a well-curated permanent collection.

Terre Haute is home to Indiana's only Holocaust Museum.  The CANDLES Holocaust Museum and Learning Center was founded by Eva Mozes Kor and Miriam Mozes Zieger in 1995.  The museum is the only organization in the world dedicated to the memory of the twin victims and survivors of medical experimentation at Auschwitz.

The Arts Corridor is the center of a flourishing artistic community including visual art sculptures by renowned artists - Bob Emser, Sally Rogers, CJ Rench, Tim Uphams, Chakaia Bookers, and Terre Haute's own Bill Wolfe.  Plus artists - Meg White, Douglas Kornfield, Howard Kalish, Leonardo Nierman, Teresa Clark, Obie Simonis, Brandon Zebold, Mark Wallis, Lauren Ewing, Madeline Wiener and Robert Evans have created one-of-a-kind art sculptures around town.  The Arts Corridor is also the site of many food fests, outdoor concerts, and Pride celebrations.

And anyone who spends time in Terre Haute will feel and see our racing roots.  Our connection to auto racing is long and impart was born from hometown businessman Anton Hulman, who in 1945 purchased the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.  After 74 years, the Hulman family sold the Indy Motor Speedway and IndyCar Series to Penske Entertainment Corp.  Terre Haute's deep history with auto racing continues with Indiana's lone 1/2-mile oval track - Terre Haute Action Track - whcih draws the Sumar Classic, USAC Silver Crown;  the Hulman Classic, USAC Non-Wing Sprints; and the MIdwest Sprint Car Series to name a few.  We are also home to the Terre Haute Quarter Midget Association which on occasion has attracted racing legends like A.J. Foyt.

Design mavens will find brilliant exteriors throughout Terre Haute Downtown with both historical and contemporary highlights. Naming a few one of a kind buildings, the Indiana Theatre holds a unique place in history as the first prototype for atmospheric theatre design that would later take America by storm.  Famed architect John Eberson is the creator of the atmospheric style architecture.  The Scottish Rites Building, a German Renaissance Revival was constructed in 1915.  The Deming, originally designed by Holabird & Roche of Chicago, was built in the "Second Empire" style with ornate cornices and plasterwork inspired by French architecture.  The Children's Science and Technology Museum of Terre Haute is 35,000 square feet with permanent exhibits that include an interactive multi-level tree house and a 'river circuit' which incorporates a cause and effect water physics.

This river city sits on the banks of the Wabash. Through the Wabash River Development and Beautification Corporation, 7,000 acres along the west side of the Wabash River was developed in to the Wabashiki Fish and Wildlife Area.  Future projects with the wetlands include fish and wildlife area trails and other nature activities.  This undertaking adds to Governor Holcomb's Healthy Rivers Initiative protecting 69,000 acres of flood plain along the Wabash and Muscatatuck Rivers.

Like many prospering American cities, Terre Haute has its own civic orchestra.  The Terre Haute Symphony Orchestra, founded in 1926, is known to be the longest-running civic orchestra in the State of Indiana. The Lavern Gibson Cross Country Championship Course  serves as host for large NCAA Cross Country events as well as the IHSAA state championship events.
