TERRE HAUTE, IN (April 17, 2007)—The Terre Haute Innovation Alliance, a new economic development and education initiative, is already beginning to pay dividends, local officials said today in announcing its creation. “The partnership between the City of Terre Haute, the Terre Haute Economic Development Corporation, Indiana State University and Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology has started providing services to three companies in the process of developing or expanding their products while engaging students in hands-on projects and creating jobs for the local economy,” said Steve Witt, President of the Terre Haute Economic Development Corp.

Site Selection Magazine Ranks Terre Haute 7th in Tier Three Metro's within the U.S.

Terre Haute, IN (March 16, 2007)—More than 800 new jobs and more than $298 million in new investment over the past year gives Terre Haute/Vigo County, Indiana some serious bragging rights, particularly where advanced manufacturing investments are concerned.

For Tier Three Metros, comprising of populations between 50,000-200,000, Terre Haute joins four other cities in the U.S. for the 7th-place slot in Site Selection Magazine’s Governor’s Cup. The new tier systems for ranking the nation’s Top Metros for new and expanded facilities in 2006, is in keeping with a similar trend among corporations looking to mid-sized and small cities for projects. “Terre Haute is moving further and faster than ever before,” says Mayor Kevin Burke. “When it comes to recruiting quality jobs for working families, Terre Haute is A Level Above.”

Paul Mason, President of the Vigo County Commissioners says, “What we have achieved over the past year proves that Vigo County continues to be competitive and that we are continuing to grow and prosper.”

Among Terre Haute/Vigo County’s business expansion announcements was a $174 million expansion of the local Pfizer plant, which will create 450 new jobs. Pfizer joins six other companies located in Terre Haute/Vigo County, resulting in new and expanding companies for the 2006 year.

“Terre Haute/Vigo County clearly succeeded in 2006 because of our strong business climate,” says Steve Witt, President of Terre Haute Economic Development Corporation. “Terre Haute is the ideal location for a company to grow and prosper. Our community continues to maintain an aggressive economic development strategy.”
